The Philadelphia Eagles' 2012 season was one filled with turmoil. Injuries piled up and it certainly affected the fantasy performances of many players, most notably Michael Vick.
Vick had to deal with a beat up offensive line missing its best overall player in Jason Peters. This affected his performance from the get-go, as defenders seemed to get into the backfield at will, causing turnovers to pile up and eventually leading to an injury to the quarterback.
Nick Foles filled in, and while he played admirably for a rookie under the circumstances with a battered offensive line and missing his two best skill players in DeSean Jackson and LeSean McCoy, it proved to be too much for him to overcome as he failed to be a consistent fantasy option in 2012.
Jackson and McCoy are certainly the two offensive stars for the Eagles. They have to stay healthy for the offense to perform the way it is capable of. The West Coast offensive philosophies had gotten stale with fans and players as Andy Reid was fired after a 13-year regime.
In comes new head coach Chip Kelly with new and innovative ideas he imported with him from Oregon. Kelly will look to give this offense, which boasts an impressive group of play makers, a boost as he looks to go a hundred miles an hour with the offense and get plays in as fast as possible. This will make for a more efficient type of offense and more points on the scoreboard, which is good news for fantasy owners of Philadelphia Eagles players.
Let's take a look at the potential five best fantasy performers on the Eagles in 2013.
Bryce Brown exploded last season and was a hot fantasy waiver wire pickup. Brown will almost assuredly get more carries this season in Chip Kelly's offense that is catered more to the run. Brown is a great handcuff option for LeSean McCoy owners, and as a backup or flex player in any lineup.
Between Michael Vick and Nick Foles, whoever wins the quarterback battle should have a solid fantasy season. The offensive line is finally healthy and looks like a strength, the hurry-up offense really impressed in the pre-season, and both are surrounded with quality skill players. Look to draft either as a QB1.
Zach Ertz should see the most receiving looks of any of the Philadelphia Eagles tight ends, as he will be split out wide in Chip Kelly's offense. He is a nice red zone target at 6-foot-5, and reminds many of Jimmy Graham of the New Orleans Saints. Ertz could be a surprising fantasy tight end in 2013. He would be a nice sleeper pick in any fantasy draft.
LeSean McCoy should be the Philadelphia Eagles' fantasy stud this season as usual. He will be afforded a lot more carries and opportunities to put up big fantasy points in Chip Kelly's offense. He is a RB1 this season and is capable of having a career year in this offense. McCoy should have a monster fantasy season in 2013.
