You can’t teach speed, and you most certainly can’t teach it to a guy who is arguably the fastest player in football.
Bills rookie wideout Marquise Goodwin is crazy, crazy fast. The guys ran a ridiculous official 4.27 40-yard dash during his first attempt at the Scouting Combine. I mean, there’s a reason his nickname and Twitter handle both involve the superhero The Flash. All of a sudden, Buffalo has a ton of speedy weapons in that offense, making them one of the more exciting teams to watch in 2013. As for fantasy purposes, I don’t think many people will (nor should) be targeting Goodwin, but in dynasty formats, he is very much on fantasy radars.
The 22-year old speedster is off to a very strong preseason, having been a factor in the receiving game, but even more of a factor in the return game. So far, Goodwin has long returns such as 53 yards, as well as an explosive 107-yard touchdown return. He will more than likely be the Bills main return man this season, but the uncertainty of usage in the passing game hinders his immediate fantasy outlook. Second-year guy T.J. Graham is expected to serve as the team’s third wideout, while Goodwin may be in and out. Also, the current quarterback situation is hideous in Buffalo, as rookie gunslinger Jeff Tuel could very well be under center for Week 1. Fellow rookie EJ Manuel is dealing with some minor knee problems, and while I know he will grab hold of the starting job once he is healthy, I’m still not exactly sure how productive he will be, despite how much I love the guy. With that being said, fantasy owners would be much better off ignoring almost every receiver in Buffalo, outside of Stevie Johnson and maybe Robert Woods.
The Bills offense will be fast-paced, a unit that will attempt to score at any time. Goodwin certainly fits the bill with his breakaway speed and big play potential, but as high on the guy as I am, I need to see it for a year before I put my eggs in his basket. Trust me, I”ll be keeping a very close eye on “Flash” this season.
You know, unless he moves so fast that I miss him.
