St. Louis Rams: Daryl Richardson, Isaiah Pead Competition Heats Up

Replacing Steven Jackson in St. Louis hasn’t been easy.

In the first three games of the 2013 NFL regular season, the St. Louis Rams have only given fantasy football owners fits when it comes to the Rams’ running back situation. At first, it looked like Daryl Richardson would be the Rams’ leading rusher without question, yet Isaiah Pead is looking to make waves in St. Louis after a disappointing rookie campaign that included just 54 yards on the ground in 15 games.

Pead definitely has more upside than Richardson considering he was compared to Jamal Charles when coming out of college in the 2012 NFL Draft. Even still, Pead has hardly lived up to his second-round potential and has only 75 yards of rushing to his name coming into Week 4′s matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.

However, the Rams’ running back scenario took a surprising turn in Week 3 when Richardson injured himself in the first quarter and Pead was given the rushing reins from then on out. Richardson was impressive in the first two weeks of action, but the ex-seventh-rounder hasn’t exactly cemented himself as the Rams’ undeniable starter. So, with the 49ers’ depleted defense taking the field against the Rams it’s going to be interesting to see if Pead can shine or if Richardson will cling tight to his starting job.

Stay tuned.

Pead was a healthy scratch in tonight’s game. I don’t think there is anything remotely close to being a competition.

lol the competition doesn’t matter at all when their line lets the running back get hit in the backfield on 80% of their carries
