The New England Patriots have once again show why owning one of their running backs in fantasy football can be absolutely maddening.
Many fantasy owners eagerly drafted RB Stevan Ridley in the first round this summer, but the veteran has one again had to split his carries. RB LeGarrette Blount has been receiving more carries in recent weeks, but the latest flash in the pan in Foxboro is Brandon Bolden.
Bolden shockingly started last weekend’s game and the second-year back looked very in sync with QB Tom Brady. He rushed the ball three times for an astonishing 51 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He busted out a 46-yard scamper and even added 49 receiving yards on five grabs. Bolden looked much more explosive than his New England counterparts and he quickly became the most popular waiver wire addition this week.
New England’s backfield will be a headache for the remainder of the season though. Just because Bolden was the main bell-cow last week, doesn’t necessarily mean that he will be the number one option the following week. Head Coach Bill Belichick has made a living out of frustrating fantasy owners with his constant tweaking of his lineup and that isn’t going to change anytime soon.
Now factor in that Bolden has missed a majority of practice this week with a knee injury and his fantasy stock is falling by the day. He is currently questionable for Week 4, and if he doesn’t play this weekend, than he will go back to the end of the line.
There are other options (Jonathan Franklin, Jason Snelling, Bernard Pierce) out there this week to scoop up, so let someone else deal with Bolden.
