We all knew that it would only be a matter of time until Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden went down with an injury; just not many people pegged it being Week 4 of the fantasy football season. McFadden left Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins with a hamstring and all indications have him at least missing one week of action.
If McFadden was to miss the upcoming night game against the San Diego Chargers it would give backup running back, Rashad Jennings, a great opportunity to put up some serious fantasy numbers. His main competition for carries would be with Marcel Reece, but he has even been limited lately with a knee injury.
In McFadden’s stead last week, Jennings had a very strong showing. He rushed for 45 yards on 15 carries, but more importantly the back added eight receptions for 71 yards. It was one of the best all-around performance from a running back last weekend, and even better, he did it without starting the game.
At 231 pounds, Jennings is a very physical runner. He is more than capable of scoring inside the five-yard-line and could get a heavy dose of carries this week with all of Oakland’s injuries. San Diego has been getting gashed lately by opposing offenses, evident by them being ranked 29th against the pass and 25th against the run, so Jennings could explode given the opportunity.
Jennings may not be a longterm solution at the running back position, but if McFadden can’t go, Jennings will be a serviceable flex starter in Week 5.
