The Montreal Canadiens C Lars Eller had a big first week of the 2013 fantasy hockey season. Eller had a total of five points in the first week and was even named as one of the three stars of the opening week of the NHL season, along with Alexander Ovechkin and G Marc-Andre Fleury.
Eller was the 13th overall selection in the first round back in 2007, but he has finally played like a leading man this season. Many people are worried about Eller’s long-term fantasy value, though, and feel like he is simply the flavor of the week.
However, his gaudy numbers would suggest otherwise. The center scored three goals through his first two games of the season and has even added two assists, including one power play assist. Eller has also won 52 percent of his faceoffs (11 of 21) and has anchored the Canadiens baby line this year. He has, in the very least, earned a spot in fantasy lineups this season and could end up being a pretty reliable fantasy contributor down the stretch.
Eller likely won’t keep up this pace all season long, but he is still worth riding while he is so hot. If the Danish star is available in your league, don’t think twice about adding the young center, because he is about to have a career season.
