The Jacksonville Jaguars have a chance to make history this week against the Denver Broncos in one of two ways: A) They could play their inspired hearts out and pull off possibly the biggest upset in NFL history. B) They could suffer the worst, most lopsided loss a team will ever suffer from here to eternity.
There are better odds of a hostile animal takeover of Earth tomorrow than there are of that first scenario playing out. To be fair, though, I don’t think the latter will happen, either. The game will most definitely be lopsided, but not the worst ever. When the Broncos have a nice, comfortable lead, they’ll pull their starters and give way to garbage time production for everyone else. That’s when Chad Henne and his receivers will rack up their points, but Jacksonville’s players won’t be the only ones benefiting from the garbage time. Some of the lesser-used Broncos’ players will also get to see the field when the game is out of hand, one of whom will be running back Montee Ball.

Ball was hyped up as much as any rookie coming into the season, but the excitement quickly faded. He blew his early-season opportunities by fumbling and made little use of his carries. At this stage, he’s fallen to third on the depth chart, behind Knowshon Moreno and Ronnie Hillman. Averaging 3.1 YPC on the season, he hasn’t even been worth a roster spot. This week, however, he’ll have an excellent opportunity to put himself back in the good books. Jacksonville currently sits dead-last in the league for rush-defense, allowing 4.9 YPC and 160.6 rushing yards per game to their opponents. This is the best chance Ball will have all season to show what he’s made of and he no doubt realizes that.
If you’re short on options this week, Ball is worth rolling the dice on. If the game does get out of hand — and it likely will — he’s going to see the field plenty and against a horrendous defense, he has a strong chance to shine.
