The Seattle Mariners have suffered some serious setbacks in their rotation in the 2014 fantasy baseball season.
Starter Hisashi Iwakuma was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a finger injury, and after a brilliant 2013 season, the Japanese veteran will be greatly missed in the beginning of the year. On top of that, star prospect Taijuan Walker (shoulder) was also placed on the 15-day disabled list and will have to wait to make his 2014 debut.
To fill the void, Seattle has called up a numerous youngsters to fill out the rotation. Among these unknown hurlers, Erasmo Ramirez has been seriously turning some heads in the fantasy community.
The young right-hander was absolutely dealing all spring. He recorded a 3-0 record in five starts to go along with a sizzling 1.14 ERA and 0.85 WHIP. He quickly earned a rotation spot and the respect of Seattle’s front office as well.
In his first start of the regular season, Ramirez pitched a gem. He threw seven innings against the Los Angeles Angels and did enough to pick up his first win of the season. He allowed just six hits in the game and two earned runs, while not walking a single batter and striking out six. It was an all-around beautiful fantasy outing from the 23-year-old.
Ramirez is worth adding off the waiver wire in all deeper fantasy formats. He has seemingly locked up a rotation spot and has proven that he has big league stuff. So if you have the open roster spot, take a shot on King Felix Jr.
