Week 1 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: SP Robbie Ross

Among all the injures around the world of fantasy baseball, the rotation of the Texas Rangers has suffered several serious setbacks.

Staff ace, Yu Darvish, won the AL Cy Young Award last season. Unfortunately, he was scratched from the season opener with a back injury and placed on the 15-day disabled list. The team was also forced to put ace Derek Holland on the 60-day DL after the starter comically tore a ligament in his knee tripping over his dog this off-season.

Due to all the injuries, the rotation has been filled with a handful of unproven fantasy prospects. Among all the youngster, the one hurler worth adding in deeper dynasty leagues is Robbie Ross.

The young right-hander stepped right into the rotation, and despite all the pressure, Ross pitched fairly well in his 2014 debut. He threw five innings against the Philadelphia Phillies  and settled for a no-decision. He allowed seven hits, two walks, and two earned runs.

However, Ross did manage to strikeout seven batters in those fife innings. Out of the 24 batters he faced, Ross threw 15 first-pitch strikes. He continued to pummel the strike zone and showed potential to be a reliable strikeout option for fantasy owners.

Ross is worth picking up in any league with 10-plus owners. His young age gives him more keeper appeal, and if he can stay in the rotation, Ross could develop into a decent SP6 or SP7. Add him now before the press really starts getting out there on this kid.
