In fantasy baseball dynasty leagues, the value of a young starting pitcher goes through the roof on draft day. Fantasy owners love to lock up the next star pitcher and there were plenty of options to chose from this season.
With all the young starters around the fantasy world, though, Tyler Skaggs of the Los Angeles Angels has been somewhat undervalued this fantasy season.
Skaggs was the main player in the trade that sent Mark Trumbo to the Arizona Diamondbacks this off-season and the young right-hander has limitless fantasy potential.
Skaggs has made a habit of getting ahead of hitters in the minors and the fireballer has shown an amazing knack for finishing hitters. The six-foot-four southpaw struck out 544 through 498.2 innings of work and has the potential to be an elite strikeout pitcher.
Skaggs didn’t exactly have the best spring showing, though. He posted a lackluster 4.94 ERA and his fastball looked very hittable at times. He did strike out 19 batters in 23.2 innings of work and lived up to his strike out reputation.
Regardless of his lackluster spring numbers, Skaggs was still able to secure the final spot in the team’s rotation over veteran Joe Blanton. He has entrenched himself as a starter and will have dynasty league owners salivating all season.
Skaggs will make a major impact this fantasy season and the fireballer is worth locking up in all dynasty leagues. He isn’t drawing much buzz at the moment, but expect that to change once he starts sitting down batters.
