Trending Up: Jake Odorizzi
Trending Up: Jake Odorizzi
Odorizzi was brilliant in his season debut. The young pitcher stymied the Rays' offense, shutting them out over six innings, allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out four. Odorizzi is available in nearly every league (over 99% of ESPN leagues) and has the talent to finish 2014 as a top-60 pitcher.
Trending Up: Melky Cabrera
Trending Up: Melky Cabrera
Melky Cabrera is hitting like a man reborn after having surgery to remove a back tumor that may have led to his down year in 2013. While he hasn't drawn a walk yet, he's hit in each of the Toronto Blue Jays' five games for a .318/.318/.445 line, and even homered off highly-touted Japanese import Masahiro Tanaka to lead off the Jays' home opener. Available in 66.8 percent of ESPN leagues, he's a guy you'll want to keep tabs on if you need OF help.
Trending Down: Ryan Braun
Trending Down: Ryan Braun
Four games into the season, Braun is batting .063. Few were as high on Braun as I was entering 2014 – he’s fourth overall in my latest top 300 -- and I'm not a person who usually panics four games into a season. Braun's dealing with a sore thumb again though, the same injury that plagued him last season. It's a nerve issue that may require surgery as a worst-case scenario. I'm starting to worry if I own Ryan Braun.
Closer Watch: New York Mets
Closer Watch: New York Mets
Valverde converted his first save opportunity as a member of the New York Mets on Friday night. He did it in typical Valverde fashion though, allowing one hit and one walk. Valverde will continue to work as the Mets' closer for the foreseeable future and is a must-own in all fantasy leagues.
