5 Recent Additions To The DL
The injuries have really started to pile up this fantasy season. It seems that every owner has at least one player on the shelf and it is only going to get worse. Here are five more studs that have ended up on the shelf in Week 4 of the fantasy baseball season.
5. SP Josh Johnson, San Diego Padres
5. SP Josh Johnson, San Diego Padres
Johnson was reportedly set to make a comeback this fantasy season, but the veteran will now be forced to have his second Tommy John surgery after a couple disappointing doctor visits. Johnson had yet to pitch this season, so the news wasn’t too alarming. Either way, his fantasy career may likely be over.
4. SP Ivan Nova, New York Yankees
4. SP Ivan Nova, New York Yankees
Nova was slowly earning a spot in the rotation, but an elbow injury has completely derailed his 2014 season. Apparently, Tommy John surgery has already been recommended for Nova, but the right-hander will head to Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion. Nova will go on the 60-day DL no matter what, but if he gets TJS, he will be shutdown for the typical 12-16 months.
3. SP Matt Moore, Tampa Bay Rays
3. SP Matt Moore, Tampa Bay Rays
Moore was an elite prospect a couple years ago, but the window is slowly closing for the 24-year-old. Moore had successful Tommy John surgery on Tuesday and will officially miss the remainder of the 2014 season. He was simply the latest starter to add to the ever-growing TJS list for this season.
2. OF Mark Trumbo, Arizona Diamondbacks
2. OF Mark Trumbo, Arizona Diamondbacks
Trumbo got off to a quick start this year, as he has already clubbed seven homers and racked up 19 RBIs. Unfortunately, the slugger has a stress fracture in his left foot and will be forced to miss an extended period of time. He is currently looking for a second opinion, but fantasy fans should expect the slugger to miss at least 3-5 weeks.
1. SP Chris Sale, Chicago White Sox
1. SP Chris Sale, Chicago White Sox
Sale strained the flexor muscle in his left elbow and was placed on the 15-day DL this past week. It will be retroactive, though, so he will be able to come back on May 3rd if everything goes according to plan. It will be frustrating to put the super southpaw on the shelf for a couple weeks, but as far as elbow injuries go, the prognosis could have been much worse.
