One of the toughest aspects to choosing a fantasy soccer squad for the World Cup is picking goaltenders. To help you out between the woodwork, here are the top five goaltenders in the 2014 World Cup.

Muslera is 6-foot-3 and the goalie has outstanding range from side to side. He has an innate ability to sense shots and the veteran is one of the best in-air goalies in the world. Uruguay won the 2011 Copa America, finished fourth at the 2012 World Cup, and fourth at the 2013 Confederations Cup. The team is always competitive in these big tournaments due to the play of Muslera between the pipes and he will help the team go far again in 2014.

4. Julio Cesar, Brazil

Cesar may not be getting much attention as a fantasy goaltender this season, but he has the opportunity to shine in his home country this year. Brazil is expected to go very far in this year’s World Cup, which would only give the veteran netminder more chances to make saves and win games. This may be his last hooray, but JC has a little left up his sleeve.

3. Gianluigi Buffon, Italy

Buffon has anchored the backline for Italy and Juventus for what has seemed like a decade. He always comes up with the big save and he has proven to be one of the best penalty kick goaltenders in the history of the game. Buffon will once again carry his weight as an elite fantasy goalie in the world biggest stage.

2. Manuel Neuer, Germany

Neuer has been matured into a brick wall with the German National Team and Bayern Munich over the last couple years. The German stands at an intimidating 6-foor-4 and has outstanding lateral agility for a taller goalie. Germany is ready to make some noise in Brazil this summer and Neuer will see plenty of action between the pipes. Look for him to prove why he is widely considered the best in the world.

1. Iker Casillas, Spain

Casillas has been the Spanish captain since 2006 and he is perhaps the premier netminder in the world. Spain will go far again in the World Cup this year and fantasy fans can expect Casillas to collect plenty of wins in the process. Look for him to be one of the top options off the board this year.
