One of the most popular fantasy football sleepers at the wide receiver position last summer was Kenny Stills of the New Orleans Saints. The first-year wideout was walking into an offense led by All-Pro QB Drew Brees and many thought he would instantly become a fantasy option. He may not have lived up to the lofty expectations put on him last year, but he seems ready to take the next step forward this season.
Positives:
Stills caught five touchdowns in his rookie season, including an astonishing 129-yard, two-touchdown, performance in Week 8. He displayed serious home run potential and proved that he could contribute in they team’s high-powered offense.
Even better, the Saints cut ties with WR Lance Moore this offseason, which opens up a starting spot on the outside. Stills will be the heavy favorite to inherit the job with Moore out of the picture and the 22-year-old seems primed to become a legitimate fantasy option down in the Bayou.
Negatives:
Brees may rack up touchdowns for fantasy owners, but he knows how to spread the ball around. He never locks onto one wideout and the veteran prefers to throw the ball to his All-Pro tight end Jimmy Graham. As a result, Stills will go through some horrid cold spells during the season.
Stills is also very unpolished. The youngster started just 10 games last season and doesn’t have much experience in the league. He will struggle at times shedding opposing corners, as he weighs just 194 pounds, and the wideout will occasionally be taken right out of the play.
Final Verdict:
Stills will be a great sleeper to lock onto this summer. He will be a worth a look as a WR4 or WR5 this year and he has the chance to become a legitimate fantasy contributor in 2014.
