Overrated Fantasy Players
With the NFL season coming upon us quickly, it is time to start thinking about fantasy football. What we all want to do in our draft is avoid players who have been overrated. Sometimes there are red flags that we all seem to miss but realize in hindsight. Here I will try to help you out by pointing out the players who could be on that list.
15. Peyton Manning - QB - Denver Broncos
15. Peyton Manning - QB - Denver Broncos
Don't get me wrong, it is very possible that Peyton Manning will be the top scoring QB in fantasy again, but he will not come close to a record-setting season again. He lost Knowshon Moreno and replaced him with a sophomore player who is very unproven. He replaced Eric Decker with Emmanuel Sanders. It is a transition, on top of the fact that every time the passing TD record is broken, it is followed by a serious drop-off.
14. Bishop Sankey - RB -Tennessee Titans
14. Bishop Sankey - RB -Tennessee Titans
There is a ton of hype around Bishop Sankey. He is one of those sleepers who gets so much hype he becomes overrated. Finding rookies who score like veterans makes and breaks leagues. I think it will be another rookie (Dri Archer or Charles Sims are great sleeper options) who steals the spotlight this season.
13. Montee Ball - RB -Denver Broncos
13. Montee Ball - RB -Denver Broncos
Last season, this job was Montee Ball's for the taking. He let Moreno, who was an afterthought and likely to be cut, steal the starting job from him for the whole season. Now that he is gone, Ball is supposedly a top eight fantasy player? I think that many are jumping the gun here.
12. Cordarrelle Patterson - WR - Minnesota Vikings
12. Cordarrelle Patterson - WR - Minnesota Vikings
Cordarrelle Patterson is getting a lot of praise from everyone in Minnesota. I just don't see him breaking out with Matt Cassel as his QB -- especially with a healthy Greg Jennings taking away catches from him.
11. Arian Foster - RB - Houston Texans
11. Arian Foster - RB - Houston Texans
With no Ben Tate and a big question mark at QB, the load is going to be on Arian Foster's shoulders. His knees can't handle that kind of weight. He will unfortunately have another injury-plagued season, frustrating owners all over in the process.
10. Zach Ertz - TE - Philadelphia Eagles
10. Zach Ertz - TE - Philadelphia Eagles
After Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski, the moniker of third-best tight end seems to be a revolving door. That makes every average TE get more credibility, because many want that lightning in a bottle. That could be what is happening here with Zach Ertz. He had a decent season, and now people are trying to predict a breakout.
9. Julio Jones - WR - Atlanta Falcons
9. Julio Jones - WR - Atlanta Falcons
Julio Jones is a top-five talent in the NFL, yet he has never reached top-five fantasy receiver numbers. He has come close, but close should not get you in. He needs to show a top three season before you can put him in that conversation.
8. Shane Vereen - RB - New England Patriots
8. Shane Vereen - RB - New England Patriots
Shane Vereen has some awesome talent. He is lightning quick and can catch the ball out of the backfield. His problem is that he might not be the starter, and he has trouble staying healthy. Those are two reasons to try looking elsewhere for a RB.
7. Zac Stacy - RB - St. Louis Rams
7. Zac Stacy - RB - St. Louis Rams
The St. Louis Rams are a team that loves to torture fantasy owners. Isaiah Pead looked like the starter going into camp, and he ended up getting 21 yards on the season. Don't waste too much money on a Rams running back, especially since they used their third-round pick to draft Tre Mason.
6. Kendall Wright - WR - Tennessee Titans
6. Kendall Wright - WR - Tennessee Titans
It is hard to figure out what is going to happen with the Titans' offense this year. It may not be worth the risk since they have a new regime and a question mark at QB. Kendall Wright has all the talent, but Jake Locker has to be much healthier for him to succeed.
5. Dennis Pitta - TE - Baltimore Ravens
5. Dennis Pitta - TE - Baltimore Ravens
There are lists where Dennis Pitta is ranked as the fourth-best tight end in the league. The Ravens seem to be using him in a variety of ways this offseason, but that may not translate into too many more fantasy points. There is also the injury scare that comes with having Pitta. There are other tight ends worth grabbing.
4. Doug Martin - RB - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
4. Doug Martin - RB - Tampa Bay Buccaneers z
Doug Martin was a top-three pick in many drafts last season, but he was plagued by injuries for a majority of the season. Now he has more competition than ever with Sims and Bobby Rainey also in the mix. It may be a true committee in the backfield of the Buccaneers.
3. Terrance Williams - WR - Dallas Cowboys
3. Terrance Williams - WR - Dallas Cowboys
Everyone is loving Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrance Williams as a breakout candidate. While Tony Romo usually has plenty of passes to go around, Williams needs to show a little more before he should be going as high as he is in drafts. Many think that there is some serious Miles Austin-type possibility here.
2. Le'Veon Bell - RB - Pittsburgh Steelers
2. Le'Veon Bell - RB - Pittsburgh Steelers
Ever since Mike Tomlin took over as coach of the Steelers, he always seems to have a different favorite at RB. Le'Veon Bell sure did look like the guy, but with Archer now in the fold he could take some carries from him. They also just gave a nice-sized contract to LeGarrette Blount to lighten the load.
1. Colin Kaepernick - QB - San Francisco 49ers
1. Colin Kaepernick - QB - San Francisco 49ers
Since Michael Vick hit the scene back in 2001, fantasy owners want to find that dual-threat quarterback. With players like RGIII, Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick, it seems they can take their pick. Kaepernick is the highest rated on fantasy rankings, but he may end up being the worst of the three.
