Fantasy Baseball 2014: 5 Pitchers Who Will Help You Win Your Daily Leagues On Aug. 1
There are two full months of baseball left and tons of money still to be won in daily fantasy baseball. Whether you're a cash game player, GPP player or both, it's extremely important to select the right pitcher every night. Let's take a look at who the top five pitching options are for Aug. 1.
5. Doug Fister -- Washington Nationals
5. Doug Fister -- Washington Nationals
Fister is currently on a six-start streak where he's 5-0 with a 2.21 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. Even though he has only produced 21 strikeouts in that span, he has also only walked six batters. He has also faced Philadelphia twice since 2012 and has performed well with a 2-0 record, 1.20 ERA, 0.53 WHIP, 11 Ks and one walk in 15 innings. Even though the Phillies have been hitting better lately, Fister should be able to slow them down.
4. Mat Latos -- Cincinnati Reds
4. Mat Latos -- Cincinnati Reds
Over the past 30 days, Latos has struggled with a 1-2 record, 4.15 ERA and a sub-par 5.88 K/9. However, his 3.86 FIP over that same duration shows that he's been pitching better than his results have shown. He has also recently struggled with his fastball and changeup, but those are pitches that Miami haven't been hitting well lately. Asides from Giancarlo Stanton, Latos shouldn't have any issues tonight.
3. Adam Wainwright -- St. Louis Cardinals
3. Adam Wainwright -- St. Louis Cardinals
Over 594 plate appearances, the Brewers are batting .199 with a .548 OPS vs. Wainwright . This includes 16 quality starts for "Waino" yielding a 2.19 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 8.5 K/9. Additionally, the Brewers have hit .192 with an awful .539 OPS on the road. I'm mentioning these stats since a matchup with Milwaukee is never a super favorable one, but the All-Star ace of the Cardinals is definitely up for the task.
2. Sonny Gray -- Oakland Athletics
2. Sonny Gray -- Oakland Athletics
Over the last 30 days, Gray has been nothing short of dominant. His 5-0 record over that span along with a 1.03 ERA, 7.97 K/9, and an elite 54.8 percent GB rate proves that fact. His 2.76 FIP shows that he has been getting a little lucky, but that number is still elite. He faces the Royals for the first time in Oakland ,tonight and his 10-3 home record with a 2.57 ERA and 8.2 K/rate should set him up for a quality start and win.
1. Chris Sale -- Chicago White Sox
1. Chris Sale -- Chicago White Sox
Sale will be the most expensive pitcher to take tonight, and there's good reason for that. His 3-0 record over the last month with a 0.85 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 10.8 K/9 made him the best pitcher in the baseball during that span. Additionally, he faces the Minnesota Twins, and they haven't been hitting well lately. Their No. 22 rank in team wOBA proves that, and increases the likelihood of Sale having another dominant performance.
