Fantasy Baseball Pitchers Who Will Help You Win Your Daily Leagues On Aug. 22
This should come as no surprise, but Clayton Kershaw was dominant last night and he'd better be considering his $12,000 price-tag. Matt Shoemaker was another great option last night and virtually matched Kershaw for a fraction of the price. With that being said, let's take a look at who should be on your top-five SP list for a big Friday night in daily fantasy baseball.
(Prices are based off FanDuel salary-cap leagues)
5. Sonny Gray - Oakland Athletics ($8,600)
5. Sonny Gray - Oakland Athletics ($8,600)
It's been a rough month for Sonny Gray as he has struggled his way to a 1-4 record with a 4.15 ERA and a K/9 rate of only 6.53. It also doesn't help that the Los Angeles Angels, his opponent, have been ranked 12th in team wOBA over the past week. However, the game is in Oakland and Gray's FIP of 3.83 with a groundball percentage of 59.4 show that it's simply been a bad stretch for him. I anticipate Gray getting back to his dominant ways tonight.
4. Adam Wainwright - St. Louis Cardinals ($9,700)
4. Adam Wainwright - St. Louis Cardinals ($9,700)
Just like Sonny Gray, Wainwright has hit a rough patch as well. However, his patch isn't as rough as Gray's since he's gone 3-2 with a 4.05 ERA and a K/9 rate of 6.48. Obviously these aren't typical Wainwright numbers since he is 15-7 with a 2.40 ERA in 2014. He faces a Philadelphia Phillies team that's been hit or miss lately despite being ranked 10th in wOBA over the past week. This is a great matchup for him to get a quality start and win.
3. Doug Fister - Washington Nationals ($8,600)
3. Doug Fister - Washington Nationals ($8,600)
The former Fresno State Bulldog has been more than impressive over the last 30 days. During that span, he has a 3-1 record with an incredible ERA of 0.51. The only concern is his K/9 rate, which is only at 6.37, but that's a very minor concern. He faces a San Francisco Giants team tonight that's ranked 3rd in wOBA over the last week, but that shouldn't phase Fister much. He dominated them earlier in the year and the same should happen tonight.
2. Carlos Carrasco - Cleveland Indians ($5,700)
2. Carlos Carrasco - Cleveland Indians ($5,700)
A year ago, I was stacking as many batters as possible against Carlos Carrasco. However, it seems as if he's starting to realize his potential and has been impressive over the past month. During that span, he's gone 2-1 with a 2.29 ERA and a respectable K/9 rate of 7.32. Additionally, his K/9 rate at home is 10 and tonight's game takes place in Cleveland against the whiff-happy Houston Astros. Lastly, his price makes him a great value tonight.
1. Felix Hernandez - Seattle Mariners ($11,000)
1. Felix Hernandez - Seattle Mariners ($11,000)
Once again, King Felix is the top selection tonight against a Red Sox team that's sporting a sub-.300 team wOBA over the past week. Over the last 30 days, Hernandez has gone 2-2 with a 1.85 ERA and an elite K/9 rate of 9. Additionally, his ground-ball rate is an incredible 61.8 percent and BB/9 rate is 0.79. In short, regardless of his lofty price, I highly recommend to pay up for King Felix as he is your top SP for tonight.
