Fantasy Football Week 1 Start or Sit: Trent Richardson

If you owned Trent Richardson on your fantasy team in 2013, you probably got really excited when he got traded to the Indianapolis Colts. With Andrew Luck and company, Richardson was going to have plenty of holes to run through, right? Wrong!

Some may still have faith in his abilities to regain his rookie-year production. Week 1 pits Richardson against a tough Denver Broncos run defense. They ranked seventh in stopping the run in 2013. They may have gotten even better in that area with the addition of DeMarcus Ware and TJ Ward.

Are you brave enough to start Richardson on your fantasy team? I’m not. Give TR a couple of weeks to prove that he is worth that valuable RB spot. You can live without him, especially in the first couple of weeks. Week 3, against the Jacksonville Jaguars, or Week 4, vs. the Tennessee Titans, could be possible games where you can throw him in your starting lineup. They pose as better match ups against the Colts’ rushing attack.

If you must depend on Richardson, for the simple fact that he is your best option, then you must have high hopes of a 2012 season. In his rookie campaign, TR racked up over 1,300 yards and 12 total touchdowns. Last season, after being traded to the Colts, he had 458 yards and 110 less carries. The lessened load on Richardson is much more concerning than the yardage. All of us Trent Richardson owners are hoping for a more balanced offense in Indy, that’s for sure.

Verdict: Sit ‘em
