Up 17-0 at halftime, all was looking good for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Chad Henne and Allen Hurns combined for two touchdowns and the defense was coasting through this one against a really tough Philadelphia Eagles offense. While the Jaguars did end up losing to the Eagles in that game, there were a ton of positives to take away, and the main one was Henne, who looked really efficient.
While Blake Bortles challenged him in the preseason, Henne looked very polished in this one. While Henne will not win the MVP award, he can make all of the throws at all of the levels. Jacksonville’s offense is not the best in the league. In fact, it’s among the worst, but having Henne, and Toby Gerhart in the backfield, is most certainly a solid duo.
Gerhart is a violent runner, and that mindset makes it easier for Henne to throw the ball. With the offensive line showing that it can hold its own against a decent pass-rushing team, Henne now has time to look through his reads and find the open receiver. Cecil Shorts III will be coming back this week, which gives Henne another option to work with in the passing game. The Jaguars’ defense did its thing, and that opened up the game for Henne and this offense.
After watching Henne move the ball down the field, offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch will likely dial up more passing plays. The Jaguars will be playing the Washington Redskins in Week 2, and that secondary is extremely vulnerable to giving up some deep gains. He is a risky Week 2 waiver wire pickup, but fantasy football is all about risks, and playing Henne in Week 2 could turn out to be a smart decision.
