After the 2013 season, it’s safe to assume Ryan Tannehill was hoping the Buffalo Bills were sold to new owners and moved far, far away; maybe Outer Mongolia? Anywhere away from the AFC East. Tannehill is 1-3 in his career against the Bills and was held to only 82 yards passing in his last effort against them.
However, the 2014 season brings a new offensive line and new hope. Last year, not only was the Miami Dolphins‘ offensive line among the worst in the NFL, it was surrounded by the Richie Incognito controversy. The Bills took advantage in their last meeting, sacking Tannehill seven times. The Dolphins fixed many of the gaps on the line since that atrocious performance.
Tannehill looks to avenge the two losses that went down last season and has momentum on his side. He performed well enough to manage a victory against the always mighty New England Patriots in Week 1. However, more credit can go to the newly energized run game led by Knowshon Moreno than Tannehill’s average performance. He managed to complete 56 percent of his passes but threw one interception and fumbled once, which was recovered by the Dolphins.
Tannehill and the new Miami offensive line will arguably be looking at an even grittier defensive front seven this week. Mario Williams, Brandon Spikes and Kyle Williams could be one of the best cores in all of football. If they slow down Moreno and force Tannehill to pass, it’s going to get ugly fast. Tannehill’s one pick last week was because of pressure. If you rush him and don’t let him settle into a rhythm, he makes very egregious throws.
The Buffalo Bills are a hungry team and they appear to like the taste of Ryan Tannehill. He didn’t do enough Week 1, even in victory, to warrant a start this week against a team that has given him fits his whole career.
