The curious case of Toby Gerhart continues into week 3 of the fantasy football season after two disappointing weeks.
Many fantasy owners, including myself, were excited to steal Gerhart as an RB3 in the draft. His move to the Jacksonville Jaguars was supposed to be when he could finally break free of Adrian Peterson‘s shadow.
His 2.0 yards per attempt average is painful to just look at. During Week 1, he scored about five fantasy points. This was not as much as a concern, because of an ankle injury that he suffered during that game. In Week 2, Toby once again disappointed fantasy owners as he barely racked up one point.
At this point you have either benched him totally, due to frustration, or still have some hope that he can produce. It’s all about match ups now. The Indianapolis Colts come into Jacksonville hungry for a win. They rank 17th in rushing defense. This may be a tad inflated as they were demolished on the ground by LeSean McCoy and Daren Sproles, last week. Gerhart is a totally different runner than those two guys. He’s not going to make many miss.
One would still think that Gerhart is due for a breakout game. Will that be against the Colts? It is hard to say, but at this point I find it very hard to trust him fantasy-wise. Be patient and wait for him to prove his worth on the field.
Verdict: Sit him, because there are better options at RB and the flex position. No more “wait and see” strategy with Gerhart.
