In what has been one of the better free agent acquisitions of the offseason, New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings has emerged as a do-it-all running back for the Giants. Jennings is being asked to carry a heavy workload not only in the running game, but also as a receiver out of the backfield with his backup Andre Williams not having any confidence to catch the ball.
So far this season, Jennings has produced as one of the better fantasy football RBs every week. In Week 1 against a good rushing defense in the Detroit Lions, Jennings only ran for 46 yards on 16 carries, but he did have a rushing touchdown along with four catches for 50 yards. In Week 2 against another good defense in the Arizona Cardinals, Jennings ran it a bit better, as he had 64 yards on 18 carries. Also against the Cardinals, Jennings was a factor in the passing game, catching four passes for 45 yards, but the one downside in that game was that he an odd fumble as he lost the ball without being hit.
Week 3 was the breakout game for Jennings and the Giants’ offense. On 34 carries, he ran for 176 yards with a touchdown for a monster week for his fantasy football owners.
The Redskins’ rush defense has been tested in two of their first three games against Arian Foster and LeSean McCoy, and they have done pretty well against two of the better RBs in the league. Foster had 103 yards, but it took him 27 carries to get there, and McCoy suffered a head injury against them, which may have had a factor in him only having 22 yards on 19 carries.
With the Redskins’ defense doing well against the run, Jennings might not have a great yards per carry average in the game, but with a heavy workload likely and his ability to catch the ball, Jennings should be over 100 total yards on Thursday Night Football, giving his fantasy owners a good amount of points.
