Fantasy Football Week 6 Waiver Wire Pickup: RB Ronnie Hillman

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball flew up fantasy football draft boards this summer. RB Knowshon Moreno was no longer in the picture and this was going to be Ball’s job to lose. Unfortunately, Ball left the Week 5 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals with a groin injury. It looks like he could miss a couple weeks, as recent reports from the coaching staff have him “out for a while”, which is hardly promising for the popular back’s fantasy value down the stretch this season.

In Ball’s absence, Ronnie Hillman ripped of 64 yards on 15 attempts. He saw the lion’s share of the carries could potentially start in Week 6 if Ball is not ready to go, which would instantly add to his fantasy appeal. He will obviously still have to battle C.J. Anderson and Juwon Thompson, but Hillman is by far the most experienced option and will be the obvious choice to start.

The benefit of being the featured back in this offense is that QB Peyton Manning knows how to keep a defense honest. He will allow Hillman to constantly face a light box and the back will see plenty of yards before contact as a result. Hillman is also a proven receiving threat, and if he sees more playing time, it stands to reason that he will see more targets in the passing game as well.

Hillman is worth a serious look in all deeper fantasy formats. He could end up starting a couple of games for Ball, and if does, Hillman will be a sneaky flex option to use with all the bye weeks coming up.
