Trent Richardson Fantasy Football Week 6 Projection

Indianapolis Colts running back Trent Richardson has yet to break out this season, with 70 carries for 240 yards, 15 catches for 132 yards and one rushing touchdown through five games. Ahmad Bradshaw has more rushing yards (250) on fewer carries (49), and he also has 18 receptions for 151 yards and four touchdowns so far this season. Simply put, a committee backfield is likely to remain in Indianapolis.

The Colts will travel to take on the Houston Texans on Thursday night, and a fairly difficult matchup is coming. The Texans are in the middle of the pack against running backs so far this season (17.8 fantasy points per game; ESPN scoring), even after allowing 136 rushing yards and 192 combined yards to DeMarco Murray in Week 5. The Texans have not allowed a rushing touchdown in either of their last two games, and it took Murray 31 carries and 37 total touches to accumulate his yardage last Sunday.

A workload split limits Richardson’s fantasy value in this or any week, and though he has 12 red zone carries thus far (tied for fourth-most among running backs) a lack of proficiency (one touchdown) makes it likely Bradshaw steals some carries in that area of the field. Running backs have needed a lot of volume to produce at a high level against Houston so far this season, outside of Alfred Morris’ 91 yards on 14 carries in Week 1, and barring injury no Colts’ running back can offer that in Week 6.

Richardson is only worth using as a low-end flex option at this point, even in a best-case scenario. He may have some sneaky appeal this week in PPR leagues, with at least three receptions in four of five games this season, but even that feels like a reach.

Trent Richardson Week 6 Fantasy Projection: 13 carries for 43 yards, three receptions for 25 yards.
