Evidently, Washington Redskins starting QB Kirk Cousins is not as bad as people thought he was.
Cousins was chastised by NFL pundits and dropped by fantasy football fans across the nation after he committed five turnovers two weeks ago against the New York Giants. However, he rebounded well against the most feared defense in the NFL on Monday night when he threw for 283 yards, two TDs and zero interceptions against the Seattle Seahawks.
Cousins couldn’t lead his team to victory, but his starting position at QB is secure for the next few weeks since Washington is in no rush to force their injured star QB Robert Griffin III back onto the field.
This season, Cousins has really played well against teams that are terrible at defending the pass, and Washington will face the Arizona Cardinals (31st-ranked pass defense) on Sunday afternoon as they look to snap their current three-game losing streak. Moreover, if you omit his bad game against the Giants, Cousins has a QB passer rating of 105 with seven touchdowns and just one interception.
The Cardinals were no match for the passing attack of the Denver Broncos in Week 5, as Peyton Manning threw for a season-high 479 passing yards and four TDs, so there’s a clear opportunity for Cousins to thrive as well. Although he’s not Manning, Cousins has a lot of weapons in the passing game in WRs Pierre Garcon, DeSean Jackson, Andre Roberts and TEs Niles Paul and Jordan Reed.
Simply put, the Cardinals’ defensive backs will have their work cut out for them on Sunday afternoon.
If your quarterback is on a bye week, or you don’t like the defense that your starting QB is matched up against this week, pick up Cousins if he’s still available and start him on your fantasy team. The Redskins might lose to the Cardinals, but Cousins could help you get the win that you need against your Week 6 opponent.
