Coming into this season, Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz was thought by many to have the potential for a breakout season, and his season thus far has somewhat fulfilled such expectations. Ertz is a key part of head coach Chip Kelly‘s offense and he will definitely be a factor this week as the Eagles face their division rivals, the New York Giants.
From a fantasy football standpoint, Ertz started off the season hot, but has cooled down pretty significantly over the past few weeks. In Week 1 and Week 2, Ertz earned 13 and eight points respectively and tallied his only touchdown of the season so far against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1. The tight end has just six fantasy points in the four games since, yet he shouldn’t be overlooked.
Ertz’s yard production has been solid recently, despite his lack of fantasy points, and the one thing keeping him from racking up big points has been an absence of big plays and his inability to get into the end zone. One negative of having a player on a team like the Eagles is that they have an array of weapons that can get the ball in different situations, red zone included. That being said, it’s safe to say Ertz will be productive every week. Whether or not he will come through with those big plays and touchdowns is hit or miss, though.
To make things even more discouraging, the Giants have been very tough defensively against tight ends from a fantasy standpoint. Their defense is ranked second in the league against tight ends and they’ve given up no more than six points a game to a tight end this year. That being said, the Eagles’ offense is very difficult to defend, so that could be a positive for Ertz. I think Ertz will have a good fantasy week. He’s due to get into the end zone and he’s been a steady target for quarterback Nick Foles.
Final prediction: four catches, 37 yards, one touchdown – nine points total
