It’s been a rough season if you’re the fantasy football owner of Eric Decker. He has shown the ability to make plays with the ball in his hands, but the problem is that the New York Jets haven’t been able to get him the ball that often. Decker has the opportunity to put up solid numbers every week, but to rely on Geno Smith to throw his way often may be too much to ask for.
Going into Week 7, Decker has 20 catches, 258 receiving yards and three touchdowns. If one was to project those number over a full season, it wouldn’t come out to terrible numbers in terms of fantasy production. Unluckily for the Jets’ wide receiver, he gets the tough task of going against one of the best corners in the NFL, Darrelle Revis, on Thursday night. The stud cornerback is not the player he was a few years ago when he was with the Jets, but he still has a ton of talent. Fantasy owners should temper their expectations for Decker even more so knowing that Revis is going to be matched up against Decker for most of the game.
Right now, it’s hard to pencil in Decker as anything more than a No. 3 wide receiver in 12-team standard leagues based on his matchup and the poor play of the Jets’ offense of late. I expect the Jets to stay conservative against the New England Patriots and I don’t see them throwing the ball a lot because the last thing they want to do is get into a shootout with Tom Brady.
Eric Decker Week 7 projection: five catches, 55 yards.
