Denver Broncos running back, Ronnie Hillman needs to be owned in all leagues. Filling in for the injured Montee Ball, Hillman racked up 27 touches and 116 total yards in Week 6 against a stout New York Jets run defense.
Heading into Denver’s Week 6 match up in New York there was a decent amount of uncertainty regarding who would shoulder the load in the Broncos’ backfield, all of those doubts should be thrown out the window heading into Week 7. Not only did Hillman out-touch both C.J. Anderson and Juwan Thompson combined by 19 touches (Thompson had eight and Anderson had zero), he absolutely destroyed the both of them in terms of snap count. Hillman was on the field for 56 of Denver’s 74 offensive snaps last week while Thompson saw 17 and Anderson just one. John Fox even continued to feed Hillman the ball despite fumbling in the third quarter.
Hillman is the starting running back for a Peyton Manning lead offense. As long as Ball is out, he is a solid RB2 and he needs to be owned in 100 percent of leagues, regardless of size and scoring setting. Even when Ball does return, if Hillman performs well in his absence, the job could be his for the long run.
As I type this, Hillman is still available in 95 percent of ESPN leagues and in 54 percent of Yahoo! leagues. I expect those numbers to shoot up quite a bit after the Wednesday waiver period passes, if you have any opportunity to acquire Hillman I implore you to pounce. Guys who are widely owned (owned in at least 75 percent of ESPN leagues) that I would drop for Hillman include but are not limited too: any of the guys who suffered season-ending injuries this weekend (Victor Cruz, Stevan Ridley and Knowshon Moreno), Steven Jackson, Doug Martin, Chris Ivory, Darren Sproles, Larry Fitzgerald, Trent Richardson, Khiry Robinson, Greg Jennings, Cordarrelle Patterson, Bishop Sankey, Chris Johnson, Darren McFadden, Shonn Greene, Toby Gerhart, Maurice Jones-Drew, Jeremy Hill, Ryan Mathews, DeAngelo Williams, Riley Cooper, Dwayne Bowe, Matt Asiata, Danny Amendola, LeGarrette Blount and Mark Ingram.
