Brian Quick Fantasy Football Week 7 Projection
Third-year wide receiver Brian Quick has already produced the best statistical year of his young career only five games into the 2014 campaign. Through the St. Louis Rams’ first four games, Quick had been one of the NFL’s most reliable receivers, averaging five catches for 80 yards and totaled three touchdowns.
In Week 6, however, a matchup with the San Francisco 49ers killed off all his momentum as he was only able to come up with one catch for 10 yards. Quick’s Fantasy Football owners, who were hoping last week was just a fluke and that he’ll return to form in Week 7, need to look elsewhere for their starting receiver.
Week 7 brings the Rams a matchup against the Seattle Seahawks who, although they don’t have the same elite defense they did a year ago, have still — for the most past — shut out opposing No. 1 receivers.
Of the pass-catchers to have played against the Seahawks, Jordy Nelson is the only No. 1 receiver to have success, catching nine passes for 83 yards. The other four No. 1 receivers to face the Seahawks — Demaryius Thomas, Dez Bryant, Pierre Garcon and Keenan Allen — have averaged less than four catches for 43 yards and have scored zero touchdowns. While I do like what Quick has done this year, it’s unrealistic to expect him to have a great game against Seattle’s secondary.
There may, however, be a sliver of hope for Quick, seeing as he doesn’t always line up on the right side of the field. As the No. 1 receivers have been shut out, teams’ second receivers have flourished. DeSean Jackson, Emmanuel Sanders, Terrence Williams and Randall Cobb averaged 108 yards and scored two touchdowns against this secondary. Since the Rams move Quick around, he should fare better than a typical No. 1 receiver, but as the lone threat on this St. Louis team, he’ll still warrant a lot of attention.
I don’t see Quick being shut out of this game, but he’s still the Rams’ top receiver and the Seahawks have a knack for shutting those guys down. Look for Quick to be in the range of six catches for 70 yards.
