Fantasy Football Week 7 Start Or Sit : Larry Donnell

The New York Giants suffered a huge loss in their Week 6 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles as Victor Cruz tore his patellar tendon and will be out for the season. With Cruz sidelined, someone will have to catch passes from Eli Manning. One of the players who should see an increase in targets is Larry Donnell.

Donnell came out like a man on fire to start the season, building a rapport with Manning and quickly becoming one of his favorite targets. Through the first four games of the season, Donnell recorded 25 receptions on 31 targets for 236 yards and four touchdowns. Week 4 was his big coming out party, as Donnell caught three touchdowns against the Washington Redskins in a blowout victory for the Giants.

With all the built up momentum, Donnell became a hot commodity in the fantasy world, but he came plummeting back to earth in Weeks 5 and 6. Against the Atlanta Falcons, Donnell was not targeted, and against the Eagles he caught only one of two targets for six yards, having a touchdown reception called back because of a holding penalty.

After two poor showings in a row, Week 7 should be a bounce back for Donnell. With Cruz out, Manning is without his security blanket and Donnell could easily fit into that role. Manning has showed plenty of confidence in him, something that cannot yet be said for Odell Beckham Jr., who will be playing in only his third game, or Rueben Randle, who still has inconsistent performance despite plenty of opportunities.

Also working in Donnell’s favor is the performance of the Giants’ Week 7 opponent, the Dallas Cowboys, against tight ends. Thus far through six games, the Cowboys have surrendered the second-most points to opposing tight ends.

With a favorable matchup and an increased role on the horizon, Donnell should get back on track in Week 7. If you picked him up and held onto him even after the poor back-to-back performances, get him back into your lineup this week. He is bound for a bounce-back game and should be a TE1 for the remainder of the season with Cruz sidelined.
