Vernon Davis Fantasy Football Week 7 Projection
Fantasy football owners were hoping for the 2013 version of Vernon Davis when they took him in the early rounds of their fantasy draft. Unluckily, owners have had to deal with lingering injuries and a tight end who is not playing at one hundred percent. Now in Week 7, Davis has a full week of practice under his belt and it seems as if he is injury-free.
Davis was a beast last season with 52 receptions, 850 yards and 13 touchdowns. So far in 2014, Davis only has 12 receptions, 121 yards receiving and two touchdowns, which both came in the same game. The San Fransisco 49ers take on a tough Denver Broncos pass defense which ranks fourth against the pass, so Davis may find a hard time putting up giant numbers, but he’ll be productive.
Now that Davis is at full strength owners should feel confident in his ability to be a No. 1 starting fantasy tight end across all leagues. Davis showed some rust last week with a few dropped passes and missed opportunities, but that is expected for a guy that has missed a lot of time in practice due to a back injury.
If you’re a Davis owner that’s had him from day one, I applaud your patience. I expect Davis to, once again, become a top target in the 49ers offense this week and he should continue to see a lot of looks in the red zone because that is where he makes up most of his fantasy value. Despite the challenge of going against a top-notch Denver pass defense, owners should ride with Davis because he presents a lot of upside with his play making abilities.
Week 7 Projection: 5 catches, 60 yards and 1 TD
