2015 Fantasy Baseball: Anthony Rendon Is The Next Superstar
There aren’t many fantasy baseball players that qualify at second base that can be considered elite hitters. Most second basemen struggle to hit over .270 and hardly ever hit 20-plus home runs in a single season. It has become the curse of the keystone position over the last several fantasy season.
Luckily during the 2014 season, the group of elite infielders got a little bit bigger. Anthony Rendon, the 2B/3B hybrid of the Washington Nationals, posted monster numbers across the board and the former Rice standout quickly became a fixture in all fantasy formats.
In his first full season, Rendon boasted a respectable .287 batting average and looked like a veteran in the batter’s box. Even more impressive, was the fact that he managed to rack up 21 home runs, 39 doubles and 83 RBIs. He truly had a breakout fantasy campaign. Rendon shockingly scored 111 runs last season, which was tops in the entire National League. He added 17 stolen bases as well, which helped him round out his game as an all-purpose second baseman.
The 24-year-old has the potential to post 30 HRs/100 RBIs/80 RBIs/ 20 SBs on a yearly basis. He may end up playing more games at third in 2015, but he will see enough action at second base to qualify there in all formats, which causes his value to skyrocket due to the position’s scarcity.
Rendon has proven that he is the next big name to memorize in the fantasy world. He will only get better from here and will be worth jumping on very early in 2015 fantasy drafts.
