10 Sleepers That Didn't Pan Out

Fantasy football owners scour the web for sleepers during the offseason, and there is certainly no shortage of information out there. Unfortunately, they don’t always pan out. So as we move into the second-half of the 2014 fantasy football season, let’s go over some of the sleepers that failed to live up to the hype this summer.

Not many people expected Johnson to revitalize his career in NY, but many imagined he would at least produce like a RB3 or RB4 this season. Shockingly, though, CJ2K has been nonexistent with the Jets. He has received fewer than eight carries in three different games this season and has just one rushing TD. He has lost his job to Chris Ivory, and with Michael Vick controlling the offense, Johnson will likely see even fewer carries moving forward.

9. QB Jake Locker, Tennessee Titans

It seems that every year we are waiting for Locker to breakout and every year we end up disappointed. Tennessee has already used three different quarterbacks this season, and the latest, Zach Mettenberger, looks like he has the job for the rest of the year. The Locker-era may officially be over in Tennessee.

8. TE Kyle Rudolph, Minnesota Vikings

Rudolph is another player that had owners gushing this summer. Everyone was raving about the addition of O.C. Norv Turner, who notoriously loves to use his tight ends. Disappointingly, though, Rudolph has been out since Week 2 with a nagging sports hernia. He has only one touchdown on the season and there is a reason why this guy is on the waiver wire in most formats right now.

Harvin was a popular sleeper pick, as he was huge in Seattle’s Championship run. However, he has been nothing short of worthless this season. He may finally had a big game in Week 9 (11 catches-123 yards), but his performance over the first eight weeks of the season is hard to get over.

6. WR Cordarrelle Patterson, Minnesota Vikings

Patterson scored nine total touchdowns in his rookie season, and much like Rudolph, the wideout was supposed to thrive with new O.C. Norv Turner running the offense. Unfortunately, he has caught just one touchdown this season and caught just one pass for seven yards in Week 9. Patterson is one pick many owners would like to have back.

5. RB Toby Gerhart, Jacksonville Jaguars

The move to Jacksonville was supposed to be a godsend for Gerhart's fantasy value. He was finally out of Adrian Peterson’s shadow and had virtually no competition for carries. Unfortunately, he has proven to be utterly worthless this fantasy season. He has scored just one touchdown on the year and has averaged an embarrassing 2.8 yards per carry.

4. RB C.J. Spiller, Buffalo Bills

Spiller started the year by racking up double-digit fantasy points in the first two weeks of the season, but he followed it up with five straight meaningless outings. Even worse, Spiller broke his collarbone earlier in the month and will miss the rest of the fantasy season. It is yet another disappointing fantasy season for the back on everyone’s sleeper sheet this summer.

3. RB Reggie Bush, Detroit Lions

Bush fell pretty far this summer and was considered a steal as a RB3 in most formats, but he has once again failed to live up to expectations. Bush has only had one decent fantasy outing this year (Week 3: 15 points) and the back has been plagued by an ankle injury all month. This is simply another Reggie Bush season that is marred with injuries and lackluster numbers.

2. QB Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles

Foles was a popular sleeper this offseason and was a common sight within the top-10 fantasy signal callers. As of right now, though, the former Arizona Wildcat is the 20th ranked quarterback in standard ESPN formats. Even worse, Foles seriously injured his shoulder last weekend and it appears that his underwhelming season is over.

Martin missed most of the 2013 season with a shoulder injury, but the back looked healthy this preseason and was primed for a bounce back season. However, Martin has simply been unable to stay healthy. He has missed several games again this season and hasn’t seen more than 14 carries in a single game. Martin continues to lose carries with each passing week and the popular second round pick is barely worth a roster spot anymore.
