Another week, another superstar running back goes down with an injury. This time, it was Houston Texans‘ starting running back Arian Foster. With the season over halfway over, fantasy owners can’t take any risks heading into the playoffs. Regardless if you own Foster or not, backup rusher Alfred Blue is a hot waiver wire addition.
Foster left the Week 9 game against the Philadelphia Eagles with a groin injury. He rushed 15 times for 56 yards before leaving. The Texans were forced to throw for most of this game, abandoning the run. In relief, Blue had just seven carries for 13 yards.
Luckily for the Texans, the team is on bye in Week 10. This gives Foster an extra week to recover. However, groin injuries are not an injury that can be shaken off. If Foster does miss any time, Blue is automatically inserted into the starting lineup in Week 11. The Texans take on the Cleveland Browns and the poor rush defense. The Browns ave allowed 18.4 fantasy points per game to opposing running backs.
At this point in the season, owners should not be rostering players they won’t start. Why bother owning struggling players like Frank Gore or Ben Tate when you need to back up your top running backs. Foster is owned in nearly 100 percent of ESPN leagues and Blue is owned in just 7.0 percent. Those numbers should be a lot closer.
This is the time when owners begin preparing for the playoffs and it starts with protecting your early-round investments. Blue is a player any owner should be targeting off the waiver wire.
