Mike Evans was the seventh overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and despite a slow start to his career, he has turned it on over the past four games he’s played and is a must-start this weekend against a bottom-tier Atlanta Falcons pass defense.
Mike Evans ranks fourth among rookie wide receivers with 460 yards to go along with four touchdowns this season, but he has started to become more involved in the Tampa Bay passing attack. Over the past four games he has played, Evans has averaged 80.5 receiving yards and has scored all four of his touchdowns this season. He is coming off his best game of the season last weekend against the Cleveland Browns, which saw him catch seven passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns.
Evans has another plus matchup this weekend against the Atlanta Falcons, who allow the 10th most points to the wide-receiver position and have allowed the seventh most over the past four weeks. They are allowing the third most passing yards per game in the NFL at 280.8 and only have five interceptions on the year.
This should mean that despite the Buccaneers going back to Josh McCown at quarterback, Evans should still have a good chance to put up numbers like last weekend against a weak Falcons secondary. In addition, McCown showed a propensity last season with the Bears to lob the ball up and hope that taller wide receivers would be able to high-point the ball over smaller defensive backs and Evans should excel at this with his 6-foot-5 frame.
On a weekend where fantasy stars such as T.Y. Hilton, Andre Johnson and DeSean Jackson are on a bye, Mike Evans is a must-start and will reward fantasy owners with another solid performance against the Falcons.
