When the New York Jets traded for Percy Harvin two weeks ago, I was a big fan of the acquisition. The main reason being is because, despite his off seasons for the past two years, Harvin is a playmaker and the Jets simply need more of those. While their season is lost at 1-8, getting the football to Harvin is exciting for the fans and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg knows that. Harvin is so versatile that he is simply a fun player to watch.
Last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, Michael Vick got the start over Geno Smith. With how bad Smith has been playing in 2014, Vick didn’t have to play that well to get the starting job going forward. Vick targeted Harvin 13 times on Sunday. The pair connected 11 times for 129 yards. Considering the fact that the Jets’ offense is more horizontal than vertical, Harvin’s usage in this offense is second-to-none. Going forward, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this chemistry continue to grow. Vick has had a history in the past with falling in love with speedy receivers and there is something that is clicking with Vick and Harvin.
In Week 10, the Jets will play the Pittsburgh Steelers. Fantasy speaking, the Steelers’ secondary is middle in the road. The Steelers are giving up the 15th-most fantasy points to opposing receivers. That being said, with his play last week, it’s hard not to start Harvin in Week 10. If you own Harvin, it would be a smart idea to start the receiver. The duo of Harvin and Vick will be one to monitor over the next few weeks.
