This late into the season, it is rare to find an impact player on the waiver wire in fantasy football. Players who jumped off to hot starts are undoubtedly on rosters already, and with so many teams on bye weeks, the waiver wire could become a barren place. Somehow, there are still leagues with some gems on the waiver wire. One of those gems is New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. If the rookie is available in your league, go get him now, even if it means using your waiver priority.
Since joining the Giants’ lineup in Week 5 against the Atlanta Falcons, Beckham Jr. has seen his role in the offense grow exponentially. Coming off a lost training camp and preseason, Beckham Jr. was expected to be brought along slowly, playing outside in three-receiver sets to start. That plan had to be sped up after the Giants lost Victor Cruz to a season-ending injury.
Beckham has been up to the task of an increased workload, scoring 69.9 fantasy points in 0.5 point PPR leagues with one point for every 10 yards and six points per touchdown. He has scored at least 12.4 points in every game except one.
If that wasn’t enough to prove he could be counted on in fantasy, his performance against the vaunted Seattle Seahawks secondary this past week should do it. Beckham caught seven passes for 108 yards, and ran an outstanding route against Richard Sherman that was highlight-reel quality, ended up with a 44-yard reception.
Currently, Beckham Jr. is 68 percent owned in Yahoo!, a number that will rise at a rapid rate this week and the remainder of the season. He is quickly becoming a favorite target of Eli Manning’s because of his ability to make plays after the catch. He is also extremely reliable, as Manning has completed 73.5 percent of his passes thrown Beckham Jr.’s way — easily the highest mark of any wide receiver on the Giants this season.
While it took longer than expected, the Giants are reaping the benefits of Beckham Jr.’s production. You won’t want to miss out as he looks primed for a huge second half of the season. Becoming a reliable target of Manning has proved fruitful for players in the past, and Beckham Jr. looks to be the next in line.
If he is available, race to get him off your waiver wire. He is already outperforming his original projection of a WR3 and is currently a legitimate WR2 option.
