Fantasy Football Week 11 Start or Sit: Martellus Bennett

Martellus Bennett

Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

The tight end position is one of the hardest to predict. It’s all relative based on the individual’s team and volume of production. Minus the two or three superstars at the top, the rest of the top-10 are mix-and-match throughout the season. One of the more reliable tight ends is the Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett and should be in starting lineups this week.

Bennett is currently the sixth-best tight end in standard ESPN.com leagues. He had a spectacular September, scoring 52 points. He had four touchdowns in the first month. However, the next five games have been a downward spiral. He has just one touchdown and scored 32 fantasy points.

There is upside to owning Bennett. He is averaging 7.8 targets and 5.4 receptions per game. Even with all of the options in the Bears offense, Bennett is getting his. Brandon Marshall hasn’t been 100 percent for most of the season, allowing Jay Cutler to target his other options, including Bennett.

The downside of owning Bennett is how inconsistent he could be. Last week against the Green Bay Packers, Bennett was targeted six times. Unfortunately for the Bears and fantasy owners, he caught just two of those targets for 45 yards. Things may continue to be bad in Week 11.

The Bears welcome another division rival in the Minnesota Vikings this week. The Vikings defense have been one of the best against the tight ends, allowing the third-fewest fantasy points. Bennett is also dealing with a ribs injury, making it hard to practice. He was a game-time decision last week and could be the same this week.

If you own Bennett, you probably don’t have another reliable option. If possible, I would pick up Mychal Rivera if he’s available. If not, go ahead and roll with Bennett in your starting lineup and just hope for a touchdown.
