Fantasy Football Week 11 Sleeper: Brian Hoyer

Brian Hoyer, Cleveland Browns, Fantasy Football Waiver Wire

Johnny Manziel fans will have to keep holding for him to play with bated breath. The Cleveland Browns are working under the old adage of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”  What’s working for the surprising playoff-contending Browns is quarterback Brian Hoyer. Sure, he’s had his off days, but he’s ultimately guided the Browns to a successful season thus far and flinching at his slightest mistakes would likely be detrimental. But the question remains, can he can he perform to starting fantasy QB status?

This week, Hoyer and company take on the Houston Texans at home, where they have only lost one game this season — the Dawg Pound is running at full gear with their team’s success. Since the Browns’ Week 7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars (if we’re honest, was really just an off day for Hoyer and crew), coach Mike Pettine has targeted opposing team’s weakness, and helped Hoyer toss 275 yards in his last two home games, with at least one touchdown in each. Luckily for Hoyer owners in need of a start, they have a good matchup against the Texans this week.

The Texans started off the season as one of the top fantasy producing defenses. But in the past few weeks, they’ve allowed quite the passing performances, including a two-touchdown nearly 300-yard performance from Tennessee Titans third-string QB Zach Mettenberger and allowed Mark Sanchez to pass the two-century mark and two touchdowns after filling in for an in-game injury to Nick Foles.

What the Texans can hold to their name as a threat is that they intercept the ball well, after getting pressure on the quarterback (10 interceptions this season). But Hoyer has thrown only four interceptions this season, and has proven to be quite efficient. Don’t expect him to make too many mistakes, and if he does throw his fifth pick this week, it’s not like it’s a huge subtraction from his points.

Ultimately, look for Hoyer to keep working efficiently down the field to keep drives alive. He’ll keep it moving well to Andrew Hawkins and Miles Austin, and find a couple of touchdowns in the end as well. If you’re willing to start him in this favorable matchup, you can expect about 18 points from him.
