The Denver Broncos‘ passing game took a huge hit in Week 11 as the team lost both Emmanuel Sanders (concussion) and Julius Thomas (ankle) to injuries that’ll surely sideline them for at least a couple weeks as they recover. With the most lethal passing attack in the NFL, many fantasy owners are now wondering where to turn to replace their beloved Broncos on their rosters.
However, they shouldn’t be looking that hard. Following the next man-up philosophy, the obvious choice off the waiver wire would be another member of Denver’s aerial arsenal, slot receiver Wes Welker. If Welker was somehow sent packing in your league due to his lack of production, it’s time to put your faith in him one last time as you gear up towards that final playoff push.
The Broncos come into Week 12′s matchup with the Miami Dolphins hungry after last week’s debacle against the St. Louis Rams. After Peyton Manning posted his worse number line of the year, there’s no way I see Denver scoring less than three touchdowns against a defense that he can absolutely take it to. Relax, perennial all-pro Brent Grimes will have his hands full with Demaryius Thomas, leaving Welker in man coverage against inferior corners all day against his former team.
I expect to see a typical Welker performance come Sunday. First off, he won’t have to compete for targets with Sanders or the “other” Thomas. Secondly, I feel Manning will have no choice but to look Welker’s direction often. I mean who else is he going to throw the ball to after Demaryius? Jacob Tamme? Cody Latimer? Yeah, right. Good luck with that.
Feel confident putting in a No. 1 waiver claim for Welker this week, especially if you have no one else to replace Sanders. You may just reap the benefits.
