Fantasy Football Week 12 Sleeper: Josh McCown

The 2014 season has been another disappointing one for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a 2-8 record. Josh McCown was brought in by the Buccaneers in the offseason to help lead them to the playoffs, but he wasn’t playing for most of the season, and it was Mike Glennon getting the starts. Glennon didn’t play very well, and McCown has been able to regain his starting position, which puts him back on the radar of fantasy football owners.

In the past two weeks as a starter, McCown has done fairly well auditioning for a spot back on fantasy football owners’ teams. Against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 10, McCown was able to throw for 300 yards with two touchdowns, but had two interceptions. McCown followed that up with a very good game in a victory over the Washington Redskins. In Week 11, he was able to throw for 288 yards, and also had another two touchdowns, and this time had no interceptions.

Week 12 will provide a good fantasy matchup for McCown as he will be facing off against the 32nd-ranked team in points allowed. The Chicago Bears’ defense has been awful this season, allowing 29.0 PPG, and that makes for a good opportunity for the Buccaneers and McCown to put up points. Chicago really struggles guarding the pass, allowing 367 YPG, which ranks 19th in the NFL.

Tampa Bay also now has an emerging WR in rookie Mike Evans, who is starting to become an extremely tough player to guard down the field, and McCown is building chemistry with him. With the Buccaneers’ offense starting to play better, and the Bears’ defense being one of the worst in football, McCown is a great sleeper option for fantasy football owners in Week 12.
