Fantasy Football Week 12 Start or Sit: Colin Kaepernick

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers have as much talent as anyone in the NFL. Unfortunately, they have not played up to their potential, particularly over the last four games in Kaepernick’s case. He is averaging just 12 fantasy points per game, which ranks 25th in the league.

Kaepernick is a physical specimen with unstoppable talent. He has a cannon for an arm and might be the fastest QB in the league. He also has a plethora of All-Pro skill players around him, so it’s perplexing as to why he and the 49ers’ offense have looked stoppable more than they haven’t.

Last week against the New York Giants, San Fran’s defense forced five Eli Manning interceptions, but they only managed to score 16 points and one touchdown courtesy of a long Kaepernick-to-Michael Crabtree play. Kaepernick has not thrown an interception in three consecutive games, but he’s averaging just one touchdown in the last four games.

That streak may end this week, but in a good way. The 49ers will host a reeling Washington Redskins team that has one of the worst secondaries in football. Washington allowed rookie Mike Evans to torch them for over 200 yards receiving and two scores last Sunday. The Redskins have allowed the fourth-most passing touchdowns and are tied for a league-low three interceptions. They have also given up the fifth-most rushing yards to opposing QBs and face one of the top running signal callers in the league.

If Kaepernick plays smart this Sunday, makes good decisions and doesn’t turn the ball over, he should be due for a big game. He has not thrown for more than 275 yards or had multiple passing touchdowns since Week 6 against the St. Louis Rams, when he threw for 343 yards and three scores. With the weapons he has at his disposal and the talent he possesses, Kaepernick should have no problem throwing for close to 300 yards and two scores.

He’ll be a top-10 QB this week and should start in your fantasy league.
