Fantasy Football Week 12 Start or Sit: Michael Floyd

Michael Floyd, Arizona Cardinals. Fantasy Football

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

After a dismal three-game stretch that saw him total five receptions for 47 yards, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Floyd re-emerged on the fantasy football radar with two touchdown catches in Week 11. He also posted his highest yardage total since Week 3 (54 yards), but he only had those two receptions (on five targets) against the Detroit Lions.

The Cardinals will travel to take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 12, so is Floyd startable for his fantasy owners?

The Seahawks come into this week allowing the fewest fantasy points to wide receivers (15.6 per game; ESPN scoring), and not surprisingly they’ve also allowed the fewest yards (137.9 per game), targets (17.9 per game) and touchdowns (four) to the position. If you leave out three games where they’ve allowed 25 or more fantasy points to wide receivers, Seattle has only allowed double-digit total receptions to the position in two other games all season (Week 1 and Week 2) and only one other touchdown (Week 1).

Floyd’s five targets in Week 11 tied his single-game high over the last five games, and that lack of volume has obviously driven his production down. He had a 100-yard game in Week 3, in one of Drew Stanton’s other starts, but without touchdowns in Week 6 and Week 7 Floyd’s production has made start or sit decisions tough for a substantial part of the season.

It’s safe to say Floyd’s performance last week contributed to the bench point total of a lot of his fantasy owners, and based on that a rush may come to get him back into lineups this week. But a tough matchup means a high level of caution is necessary, so Floyd is a boom-or-bust, and very touchdown-dependent, low-end WR2 and nothing more for Week 12. I’m benching Floyd without a second thought in one of my leagues, and anyone else that owns him should do the same.
