Fantasy Football Week 13 Sleeper: Dan Herron

With running back Ahmad Bradshaw done for the season, the Indianapolis Colts turned to Dan Herron to start their Week 12 tilt against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he didn’t disappoint running for 65 yards on just 12 carries.

Although Herron averaged a rather impressive 5.4 yards per carry, the Colts turned to the dreaded running back by committee approach during the middle of the game with Trent Richardson getting his fair share of the workload. As a result, the second-year player out of Ohio State left many running back-needy owners wanting more as they approach a critical Week 13.

This Sunday, the Colts face off with the Washington Redskins, a team in disarray. After watching Herron’s toughness and pass-catching ability on display against Jacksonville, he’s a guy owners shouldn’t sleep on. He’ll more than likely lead the two-back rotation moving forward as Richardson plodded his way to 42 yards rushing on an unimpressive 3.2 yards per carry.

Based on his previous performance, it’s not crazy to think that Herron will net at least 15-20 touches this week. The strong point of this Redskins team is the blitz, meaning quarterback Andrew Luck might have to check down early and often to Herron in the passing game.

Although the Colts’ backfield situation is a rather murky one to figure out at best, it’s Herron who possesses the dual-threat for fantasy owners, and he could lay the “boom” down against the lifeless Redskins. Don’t get caught sleeping on his untapped potential.

Fantasy Projection: 15 attempts,  71 rushing yards, 4 catches, 36 yards, 1 receiving touchdown.
