Not many FanDuel players have been picking up Julius Thomas for the last couple of weeks. The tight end has been suffering from ankle injury and has only scored three points in the last five weeks. But an elite TE can’t just fade into oblivion without the sign of a return, can he? Certainly not, and I expect Thomas to return to form this week against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Even without being a factor in the last five weeks due to being sidelined and on limited snap counts, Thomas is ranked as top-five tight end and was the top option for owners before his injury. Point being, he’s been a top tight end throughout the season, and with the high-octane offense Peyton Manning orchestrates for the Denver Broncos, Thomas is bound to get his number called once again.
The Bengals are a middle of the road team against defending tight ends, but they have been unable to stop similar tight ends like Rob Gronkowski and Greg Olsen from making an impact in the game. Thomas will be lining up in the slot as a pure receiving option, and this is something the Bengals have difficulties covering as well.
I wouldn’t be completely surprised to see Thomas reach the end zone multiple times this week, as he’s done four times this season. But I’d bet on Manning dialing his TE at least one time during a trip to the red zone. For the game overall, I’d expect a 10-15 point performance. At the cost of $6,000 this week, he’s a great bargain buy.
