Divisional Round Gridiron Challenge: 5 Most Valuable TEs
Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports
The second week of the playoffs begin on Saturday. There are plenty of top players that we will be seeing for the first time. As you construct your Gridiron Playoff Challenge roster, you need to have the right balance of superstars and sleepers. With many top tight ends available to add, here are the top five most valuable tight ends for the division round.
5. Dwayne Allen

Dwayne Allen missed five of his last seven games with a knee injury before returning last week. In his first game back, he caught three passes on three targets for 30 yards. The Indianapolis Colts went with a committee against the Cincinnati Bengals. Coby Fleener had one catch and Jack Doyle also had three catches. With there still being concern for injury, Allen is a risk-reward kind of play this week. The skill is there, but so is the injury.
4. Owen Daniels

Even with Torrey Smith and Steve Smith Sr. hauling in all the passes for the Baltimore Ravens, Owen Daniels is a nice security blanket for Joe Flacco. In the Wild Card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he caught four passes for 70 yards. The New England Patriots defense have prevented opposing tight ends from scoring touchdowns. However, Flacco is on a hot streak and has two playoff road wins against the Patriots. Something has to give.
3. Jason Witten

While he hasn't scored many touchdowns this season, Jason Witten is still the go-to option for Tony Romo on third down and late in games. Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams are the deep-threat options, leaving Witten to catch passes down the middle. In the Wild Card game against the Detroit Lions, he caught five passes for 63 yards. His 5.4 salary is the third-highest, but the shootout against the Green Bay Packers will make it worth it.
2. Julius Thomas

Julius Thomas was coming off a great 2013 season and was primed for success this year. However, that didn't happen. In the final seven games, he had five receptions for 66 yards and no touchdowns. He was dealing with an ankle injury, plus Peyton Manning wasn't playing up to par in the final month. The extra week of rest should help all parties in the Division Round. Thomas' 5.5 salary makes it a little easier to take a chance on him.
1. Rob Gronkowski

Would it be anyone else? Brandon LaFell looks to be getting more targets among all Patriots receivers. Yet, Rob Gronkowski is still the most reliable option for Tom Brady. He has the highest Gridiron Challenge salary at 5.8, but with the numbers he can put up, it's like having another No. 1 wide receiver. He has a touchdown in three straight games (did not play in Week 17) and could make it four straight.
