This week’s U.S. Open will feature some of the biggest names in golf. Unfortunately, the majors have too many options and the size of the field makes it next to impossible to pick a successful squad. So to help you pick the best possible fantasy golf lineup at Oakmont, here are five guys to avoid at all costs this week.
5. Lee Westwood
Getty ImagesAfter an amazing streak at the U.S. Open (six straight top-25 finishes), Westwood recorded a T50 in 2015 and missed the cut in 2014. The super veteran will be a long-shot to make the cut this week in Oakmont.
4. Jim Furyk
Getty ImagesFuryk is having a rough season. He has made the cut in only two of his four appearances this year and has yet to register a top 30. He will struggle to keep up with all the big names heading to Oakmont.
3. Rickie Fowler
Getty ImagesFowler has shockingly missed the cut at back-to-back events. Even worse, he missed the cut at the Masters earlier this year. Fowler may have a couple of solid rounds, but my money is on him being a bust in standard fantasy formats this week.
2. Patrick Reed
Getty ImagesIn two appearances at the U.S. Open, Reed has recorded a T14 and a T35. Many are people are pegging him to break out this week in Oakmont, but I am skeptical. Let someone else risk a top-five pick on the Texas native.
1. Rory McIlroy
Getty ImagesMcIlroy has a mixed record at the major. He hasn't cracked the top-five in four years at the U.S. Open, including a T23 in 2014 and a missed cut in 2012. McIlroy's price tag will simply be too rich this week.
