NHL Fantasy Hat Trick (Hot and Cold Edition)
NHL Fantasy Hat Trick
Hot and Cold Edition
January 8th, 2012
This is a fantasy hockey based weekly blog, where I will feature 3 hot and 3 cold players each week, every weekend. So that you can use my suggestions, update and prepare your fantasy teams accordingly for the coming week.
3 HOT
Blake Wheeler (WPG) – Wheeler and the high flying Jets have been on a role as of late. What I have been impressed with as a fantasy owner of Wheeler, is Wheeler’s hot streak that started in late November. Wheeler has quietly posted 24 points is his last 23 games. Over the 23 games span Wheeler was pointless in only 5 games. I am happy that I did not trade Wheeler at the start of the fantasy season.
Jamie Benn (DAL) – Benn has been extremely impressive in his last 11 games. Benn’s 17 points during that span has put Benn tied for 13th in the NHL scoring race with 41 points. You should not be trade Benn for anyone in your fantasy leagues.
Lars Eller (MTL) – Eller had one of the better highlight reel games this year. He scored four goals (one on a penalty shot) and added one assist in a 7-3 stomping over the Winnipeg Jets. Eller could very well be a player who you should stash at the back of your bench, to gather future value.
3 COLD
Rick Nash (CBJ) – Nash has been playing a bit cold as of late. 3 points in 6 games is hardly the type of Nash numbers we expect from him. But hey, Nash is playing on the worst team in hockey and maybe those alleged trade rumours could be getting to Nash.
Kris Versteeg (FLA) – When talking about a player that has surprised you this year, you must talk about Versteeg. His 17 goals and 38 points has him sitting 19th in the league in points. Versteeg’s production and efforts has led the Florida Panthers to a 3 point division lead over the Winnipeg Jets. Versteeg has gone scoreless in his last 4 games and has recorded only one goal in his last six, which led him to my cold list for this week.
Jason Garrison (FLA) – Garrison is another Panther player who has been quite the story this season. His 18 points in 41 games this season has already matched his point output from last year. What has been most impressive is Garrison’s league leading 11 goals by all defenseman. Garrison has hit a little bit of a bump with only 2 points in his last 7 games. Realistically I think you all should be trading this player as soon as possible. Florida has a nice mix of young and veteran defenseman and because of this and Garrison’s expiring contract, I believe Garrison will not be in Florida next season. I trade Garrison for Rene Bourque, to help my week LW spot on my fantasy team, how about you?
