Video: Kings’ Jack Johnson Channels His Inner Tebow During Goal Celebration

The Los Angeles Kings have the worst offense in the NHL. Through their first 42 games they’ve managed to score just 88 times. That’s why it seemed appropriate to see Kings defenseman Jack Johnson “Tebowing” after he scored his teams third goal of the game against the Washington Capitals on Monday night.

The infamous kneel and pray celebration was made famous by the Denver Broncos much maligned, polarizing and wonky-armed quarterback Tim Tebow. It’s said that Tebow’s strong religious faith has a higher power assisting the Broncos. How else do you explain one of the NFL’s worst team a year ago winning the AFC West title and stunning the heavily favored Pittsburgh Steelers in this past weekends wild card playoff game.

Perhaps Johnson hopes to channel some of Tebow’s holy help, and in turn help his Kings earn a little divine intervention of their own. What can it hurt? As George Michael once said, “You gotta have faith!”

If only it were that easy to channel the Lord’s help. Actually turns out some of Johnson’s buddies from Michigan put him up to it.

“Hey, you have some fun while you’re scoring,’’ Johnson said. “It’s fun to score, so you might as well have some fun. I was watching the Broncos game with some buddies who flew in from Michigan. They said, `If you score, you’ve got to Tebow.’ I said, `OK, you’re on”

And Tebow he did! Enjoy!
