NHL Fantasy Hat Trick (Hot and Cold Edition)
NHL Fantasy Hat Trick
Hot and Cold Edition
February 5th, 2012
This is a fantasy hockey based weekly blog, where I will feature 3 hot and 3 cold players each week, every weekend. So that you can use my suggestions, update and prepare your fantasy teams accordingly for the coming week.
3 HOT
Phil Kessel (TOR) – Kessel, who continues to have his best season of his career has once again made my hot list for this week. Kessel’s nine points in four games was nothing but spectacular this week. Though unfortunately it only led to a 2-2 record for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Kessel looks to continue his hot streak when the Maple Leafs will honour long time captain Mats Sundin at the Air Canada Center tonight before the Maple Leafs take the ice to face the Montreal Canadiens.
Sam Gagner (EDM) – Gagner will move up to play on the first power play line with Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle. Gagner now has eight goals and seven assists over his last five games and is as hot as you can get right now. For obvious reasons Gagner has shot up 26% ownership in yahoo leagues, so good for your for those who picked him up off of free agency. Gagner might be a good sell high candidate right now, as I do not expect him to continue at the pace he is producing right now. Looking ahead the Oilers face the Maple Leafs on the 15th, then the Avalanche on the 17th.
Ray Whitney (PHX) – Whitney’s age does not mean anything to him. As Whitney’s 50 points in 55 games this is season is good enough to put him in the top 20 in NHL scoring, WOW. Whitney’s current hot streak is at 11 points over the last 7 games. At age 39, the true iron man of the NHL is on pace for 73 points this season. Whitney still has ton of fantasy value this season, so if you decide to trade him, make sure you do not sell Whitney, he could get you something substantial in return.
3 COLD
Erik Karlsson (OTT) – Karlsson who is a potential Norris trophy candidate has been cold over the last six games. Karlsson’s one goal over that span is one of the many reasons why the Ottawa Senators were in 7 game slide. But nevertheless, Karlsson is still on of the better defenseman in the league, and he is on pace to record 65-70 points this season.
Marian Hossa (CHI) – Just like teammate Johnathan Toews, Hossa is in a slump. A -5 and zero points in the last 5 games has helped the Blackhawks to one point in their last 7 games played.
Steve Weiss (FLA) – 2012 has not been too kind to the long time Florida Panthers. Weiss has only recorded 2 goals and 2 assist since the new year began. As a result I do suggest you bench Weiss in your fantasy teams for the time being until he gets back on track.
